UPDATE UPDATE: 6:30 pm CT- We have been given the gift of a little more time, as Senators slowed down the process today by introducing various amendments to the bill…a few, I suspect, were aimed at giving us the gift of a little more time. Take advantage before tomorrow morning, as Harry Reid REALLY wants the vote to happen so he can go home and sell the crap out of Barry’s budget. Contact your Senators, phone is really the best way in my opinion…then shoot an email. Ask how they plan to vote, and voice your opposition to this unconstitutional mess.

UPDATE: Speeches continue in the Senate, as many of the Dems are at a luncheon right now. This gives us time to continue contacting our Senators. Looks like the vote may come later this afternoon. C-Span 2 for those who want to watch. Just an observation, why is there a proposed amendment in this bill to up the borrowing authority for the FDIC from 30 billion to 100 billion dollars?!

In about an hour, the Senate will vote on HR 1388, Obama’s National Service corps Act. The “Gift Act”. The language in this act is broad, it creates mandatory school programs, and it infringes on our Constitutional rights by forbidding protest and church participation for those in the corps. It creates a giant new bureaucracy which will allow government to pick and choose worthy causes to fund…to the tune of $6 billion dollars. Government should not be involved in directing and paying for “volunteers”. This same type of legislation was passed in Australia, and it was a huge bust. Lots of standing around for taxpayer money, and little “volunteering” getting done.

Being a volunteer is an awesome thing. It has changed my life and the lives of my family and friends who volunteer too. It should be a choice, not part of another entitlement program. Contact your Senators quickly, and let them know to vote NO.
