Last night the Senate moved closer to passing the idiocy they’re pimping as health care reform. The 60-39 vote, backed by all 58 Democrats and two independents, overcame a Republican-led filibuster designed to block the bill.

Although last night’s vote was only procedural, the dramatic balloting before a packed gallery on a Saturday night, set the stage for a debate that should begin after Thanksgiving and occupy the Senate for the rest of the year.

The three Democrats thought to be fence-sitters rolled over as instructed by leader Reid. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) all fell in lockstep with the rest of the their caucus. Landrieu got a huge gift in exchange for her vote– a massive Medicade pass for Louisiana. That’s how the game is played, folks, and that’s why we need term-limits. Landrieu was unapologetic for taking the bribe, even saying reports that she got $100 million more in Medicaid dollars for Louisiana were false. It was really $300 million, she said.

“I’m proud to have asked for it. I’m proud to have fought for it, and I will continue to. That is not the reason I’m moving to the debate”

Lincoln and Landrieu both stressed they wouldn’t support a public option should it remain in the bill. Lincoln announced:

“I am opposed to a new government administered public health care plan as a part of comprehensive health care reform, and I will not vote in favor of the proposal that has been introduced by Leader Reid as it is written,”

No matter, should the public option be removed from the Senate bill, it’s still in the House bill… ready to be rammed in via the conference committee if the Senate passes a bill. This is how the game is played, folks. Now, should Leader Reid decided to do so, any Senate bill could be passed with a simple majority vote of 51. Don’t think it will happen? Bill Clinton has instructed the Dems to shove this sucker through any way they can, and Obama wants this on his desk by New Year’s Eve. Get the pink-slips ready, and start looking for replacement candidates that can help undo the madness.

Republicans said they wouldn’t give up the fight. “The battle has just begun,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told the press shortly after Lincoln indicated her support for the procedural vote. “We are going to do everything and anything we can to prevent this measure from becoming law.”
