Senate Confirms Pro-Porn Lawyer As Deputy Attorney General

The Senate confirmed David Ogden as Deputy Attorney General by a 65-28 vote. Do the math and you can see that the GOP let conservatives down again. While Republicans in the Judiciary Committee asked some questions of the porn attorney, but they did so with little passion. Not one declared, “I can’t vote for you.”
For 25 years Ogden has represented such clients as Playboy, Penthouse and the ACLU, arguing against laws limiting pornography and abortion. For example, he opposed filters on library computers to protect children from Internet smut and successfully defended the right of pornographers to produce material with underage children.
Ogden opposes restrictions on abortion and pornography. He previously filed a brief before the U.S. Supreme Court in support of child pornographer Stephen Knox, who possessed sexually explicit videos of children. Ogden argued that, because the children’s genitalia were partially covered by clothing, such exploitation is protected by the First Amendment.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., expressed his strong opposition to Ogden’s nomination in a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday.
“… I am now alarmed that President Obama has nominated a candidate to serve in the number two post at the Department of Justice who has repeatedly represented the pornography industry and its interests,” Inhofe said. “As we are witnessing a significant increase in the exploitation of children on the Internet, we need a deputy attorney general who will be dedicated to protecting children. David Ogden, however, has a poor record of protecting children from the exploitations of child pornography and obscenity.”
Child and adult pornographers are rejoicing. Now we have an Attorney General hellbent on disarming the public (Eric Holder) and a Deputy Attorney General who will grease the way for the worst abusers of children to continue their depraved acts. Read the tea leaves, and consider getting off of the couch.

That’s messed up. There’s no way you can defend someone who is pro-child pornography, or at least I thought there wasn’t. Hopenchange!
