Ron Kirk, Obama’s US Trade Rep Nominee, Owes Back Taxes

This is getting to be like the Keystone Cops. ANOTHER Obama nominee, former Dallas mayor Ron Kirk, owes Uncle Sam some back taxes. And he used a paid preparer! This makes Ron still a tax cheat, but smarter than Turbo-Tax-Timmy Geithner. Ron is Obama’s nominee for the position of U.S. Trade Representative.
Kirk, (quite the lefty), owes an estimated $10,000 in back taxes from earlier in the decade. Graciously, Kirk has agreed to make his payments, the Senate Finance Committee said Monday. The committee said the taxes arise from Kirk’s handling of speaking fees that he donated to his alma mater, Austin College, and for his deduction of the full cost of season tickets ($17,000) to the Dallas Mavericks professional basketball team.
This makes Kirk the latest in a string of top-level Obama administration appointees found to have underpaid their taxes, following the previously mentioned Treasury Secretary Geithner, Tom Daschle, who withdrew as candidate for Health and Human Services secretary, and Nancy Killefer, Obama’s pick for chief performance officer, also bowed out amid tax problems.
We are not surprised, nor are we amused. Now when is the next Tea Party?!
