Anyone For Some Tea? – New American Tea Party Today – Updated

Update: The Washington D.C. American Tea Party was a huge success. The turn out was greater than anticipated and the energy was high. Conservative celebs Samuel “Joe The Plumber” Wurzelbacher (see above) and Michelle Malkin were in attendance and both spoke at the event. I caught lots of video content and will be posting those later today as soon as I can. Any other attendees out there? Let’s hear it.

Lots of events going on today for the New American Tea Party. I’ll be heading into D.C. this morning to attend the noon Tea Party gathering at Lafayette Square. In the DC Metro area? Join me from 12pm – 2pm. I’ll be the handsome devil reminding Obama that Americans still believe in fiscal responsibility, not raiding the Reserve to fund a 40-year SpendoCrats wishlist.

Roland Burris’ Son Got Sweetheart Job From Ex-Gov Blagojevich

Comments Off on Roland Burris’ Son Got Sweetheart Job From Ex-Gov Blagojevich

What a big surprise. I’m sure no one saw this coming. After weeks of learning more and more about Roland Burris‘ lies and deceit over just what he did for disgraced ex-governor Rod Blagojevich we’re now hearing about what Blago did for Burris. Namely, giving Burris’ deadbeat son a $75,000 government job after he stopped paying his mortgage payments and a lien was placed on his home:

The son of embattled Sen. Roland Burris is a federal tax deadbeat who landed a $75,000-a-year state job under former Gov. Rod Blagojevich five months ago, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

Blagojevich’s administration hired Roland W. Burris II as a senior counsel for the state’s housing authority Sept. 10 — about six weeks after the Internal Revenue Service slapped a $34,163 tax lien on Burris II and three weeks after a mortgage company filed a foreclosure suit on his South Side house.

A month after the IRS filed the lien, Burris II’s lender filed its foreclosure suit. Since Burris II and his wife got the $372,000 mortgage on July 18, 2006, they’ve paid less than $3,000 on it, the suit alleges. The balance due is $406,685, including interest and penalties.

The fact that Burris II faces foreclosure but is working at a housing-related state agency “reeks of hypocrisy,” said state Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), who was the first to call on Sen. Burris to testify before the impeachment panel.

Filthy, dirty politicians coming out of Chicago. Roland Burris, it’s time to resign.

Obama’s Name To Be Removed From Earmark In Congressional Budget

The $7.7 million earmark isn’t going anywhere, but it’s been announced today that Barack Obama’s name as a co-sponsor will be edited out.

Today, Rob Blumenthal, a spokesman for the Senate Appropriations Committee said the earmark…for Tribally Controlled Postsecondary Vocational Institutions, is cosponsored by a long list of other members of both chambers. Obama’s name will be edited out. The committee will attribute that earmark to other senators on the list of that provision’s supporters, but not Obama.

No changes are expected to the earmarks requested by other lawmakers who ended up in top jobs in the Obama administration months after they sought set-asides for special projects in the bills that became the omnibus (HR 1105). Overall, the president, vice president, the White House chief of staff and the four Cabinet secretaries who were in Congress last year showed up in the records of the House and Senate Appropriations committees as the sponsors or cosponsors of hundreds of millions of dollars in pet projects in the $410 billion spending bill.

Vice President Joe Biden, who was a senator from Delaware when the window for making 2009 pet project requests was open, has his name attached to $94.9 million in earmarks.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar
, who was a senator at the time, sponsored or cosponsored even more in special line items for favored projects. His total, including earmarks he supported as a secondary sponsor, was $227.4 million. The overwhelming majority of those earmarks were cosponsored in conjunction with other lawmakers.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton , Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood , Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel also were members of the last Congress, and each of their names is associated with at least one earmark in this appropriation, which is ready for debate in the Senate. When asked for comment, White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday, “We will send you information as soon as it’s available.”

Yeah. Hang on, because Barry’s busy shopping. He’ll get back to you if he feels like it. Tea Party, Anyone?

Full Text Of Obama’s Budget

Comments Off on Full Text Of Obama’s Budget

Okay, Right Soupers, here’s the full text of Barack Obama’s OUTLINE for his budget. Of course, this is longer on the grandiose and shorter on the details, but it’s all the Dear Leader has given us right now.

Obama says it is a budget that reflects “hard choices,” but of course that is silly. The administration has made no hard choices at all; it has simply opened the floodgates and spent money in nearly every possible way, to the tune of $3.7 trillion, an amount that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Matt detailed where Obama plans to get the money, and some of it will be with reduced charitable deductions.

Obama’s rationale for this is truly Orwellian: the White House says it is unfair for high-income people to get a bigger tax break than middle-income people for claiming the same deductions or making the same charitable contributions.

Of course, higher income people get a “bigger tax break” only because they are paying higher taxes. Obama’s theory is consistent with the idea that the government really owns all your money and is therefore “giving” you money when it refrains from taxing you at a 100 percent rate.

We’d love for readers to go through the outline along with us, comment on important specifics that you find, and discuss this in the forum! So…get to reading, y’all!

Obama Administration Attempting To Reinstate “Assault Weapons” Ban

Well, it looks like my Glock just doubled in value. Obama’s new Attorney General, Eric Holder, says the administration will seek to reinstate the “assault weapons” ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration.

“I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller,” Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual’s right to own a weapon.

Holder’s excuse for attempting to disarm Americans is the chaos in Mexico. He said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

“I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S. “I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts.”

The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds. My Glock, of course, is a semi- but I have 17 round mags for it. Well hidden, of course.

Wayne LaPierre, president of the National Rifle Association, said, “I think there are a lot of Democrats on Capitol Hill cringing at Eric Holder’s comments right now. “A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country. I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it’s clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution.” ”

During his confirmation hearing, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee about the gun control measures the Obama administration may consider. Holder is waiting for Obama to take a break from his spending madness before addressing the ban. Surviving In Argentina’s FerFal (a must-read blog for all) puts it perfectly:

This is the classic tyranny worksheet. Rise to power, promote an imagine of “divinity” and aura of greater power ( at least in the unthinking mass mentality), arising like an all knowing savior, get unquestionable loyalty. And finally take the weapons away from the people.
Now they are no longer citizens, they are slaves. Those are not “assault weapons”, my friends, not when they are used by law abiding citizens to protect their families and themselves.
“Freedom weapons” is a much more fitting name, since only free people are allowed to own them.
Do not give up your rights!

You know the drill.

Chris Dodd Introduces Public National Service Bills

Comments Off on Chris Dodd Introduces Public National Service Bills

Sen. Chris Dodd, (D-CT) has introduced four bills aimed at establishing a groundwork for a system of comprehensive national service. Dodd says that the legislation will “create the architecture and the structure that will serve as the invitation for everyone to serve.” Are you ready for your “invitation”?

The Senate bills are companion legislation to bills Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3rd District, introduced Tuesday in the House, calling for increases in federal spending for public service programs. The legislation would target everyone from schoolchildren to the elderly and aim to create new bases of volunteers beyond the usual young-adult pool of service-program participants.

The Encore Act, for volunteers 50 or older would give volunteers $1,000 for 250 to 500 hours of service in a year. Another would create a fellowship for older Americans to serve in management positions at nonprofit or public institutions. In return for their service, participants would also receive an education award which could be transferred to their children or grandchildren.

Two of the bills, named the Summer of Service Act and the Semester of Service Act, are particularly aimed at middle school and high school students and will offer “credits” in return for participation in community-service programs. Some education experts are concerned that such public service programs may become part of student graduation requirements.

A fourth bill, The ACTION Act, is aimed at increasing awards for AmeriCorps volunteers and reestablishing the Corporation’s connection with federal agencies. The bill would also grant the Corporation for National Service Cabinet-level status under the Obama administration.

Back in July 2008, then Candidate Obama, called for a “civilian national security force” as powerful as the U.S. military, saying:

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,”

The comments that were ignored by the vast majority of the mainstream media, but were found to be troubling by some independent journalists who compared the idea to the formation of the Nazi Hitler Youth. Fears of “youth brigades” or civilian “enforcers: increased following Obama’s appointment of Rahm Emanuel as his chief-of staff.

In his book, “The Plan: Big Ideas for America,” Rahmbo wrote:

“It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.”

The book also notes, “Some Republicans will squeal about individual freedom, ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service.”

If you aren’t squealing now, better crank it up, people. There are several grassroots organizations that are attempting to take our country back from the increasingly socialist/communist direction that Obama is dictating. Americans For Prosperity
and the Heritage Foundation are just two worthy ones.
And…you know the drill. There are so many reasons to call and email your representatives now, that it will take a bit of your time. IT IS WORTH IT. Our country and our future is at stake. Don’t be passive, don’t just watch it happen. We have to give our best efforts to defeat the madness.

Obama To Wealthy: Stop Donating To Charities

Comments Off on Obama To Wealthy: Stop Donating To Charities

More news on Obama’s plans to vilify and tax the wealthy with backwards, counter-effective tactics. Now Obama is not only going to raise taxes on the highest tax paying portion of America, but he wants to discourage them from contributing to charities by raising the cost of them doing so:

President Barack Obama on Thursday will propose $634 billion in new taxes on upper-income Americans and cuts in government spending over the next decade to pay for his promised health-care expansion.

The tax increases would raise an estimated $318 billion over 10 years by reducing the value of such longstanding deductions as mortgage interest and charitable contributions for people in the highest tax brackets. Households paying income taxes at the 33% and 35% rates can currently claim deductions at those rates. Under the Obama proposal, they could deduct only 28% of the value of those payments.

Wow. Brilliant, you idiot. This will hit donations to everything: cancer research, poverty support, scholarships, churches, community organizations. The list goes on and on. If something costs more to do, then you do less of it to reach the same level of cost. Well, unless you’re the SpendoCrats, that is.

WSJ Warns Obama’s “2% Illusion” Will Fail

On Tuesday night Barack Obama detailed massive, massive government programs and the associated spending into the trillions of deficit dollars. Unfortunately, his ideas on paying for these programs can’t possibly support the weight of their debt. Inevitably this will lead to higher taxes and much more than on just the top bracket, who already shoulder 60% of America’s tax revenue.

The WSJ explains that even taking everything the rich own won’t be enough:

President Obama has laid out the most ambitious and expensive domestic agenda since LBJ, and now all he has to do is figure out how to pay for it. On Tuesday, he left the impression that we need merely end “tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of Americans,” and he promised that households earning less than $250,000 won’t see their taxes increased by “one single dime.”

This is going to be some trick. Even the most basic inspection of the IRS income tax statistics shows that raising taxes on the salaries, dividends and capital gains of those making more than $250,000 can’t possibly raise enough revenue to fund Mr. Obama’s new spending ambitions.

Consider the IRS data for 2006, the most recent year that such tax data are available and a good year for the economy and “the wealthiest 2%.” Roughly 3.8 million filers had adjusted gross incomes above $200,000 in 2006. (That’s about 7% of all returns; the data aren’t broken down at the $250,000 point.) These people paid about $522 billion in income taxes, or roughly 62% of all federal individual income receipts. The richest 1% — about 1.65 million filers making above $388,806 — paid some $408 billion, or 39.9% of all income tax revenues, while earning about 22% of all reported U.S. income.

Note that federal income taxes are already “progressive” with a 35% top marginal rate, and that Mr. Obama is (so far) proposing to raise it only to 39.6%, plus another two percentage points in hidden deduction phase-outs. He’d also raise capital gains and dividend rates, but those both yield far less revenue than the income tax. These combined increases won’t come close to raising the hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue that Mr. Obama is going to need.

The bottom line is that Mr. Obama is selling the country on a 2% illusion. Unwinding the U.S. commitment in Iraq and allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire can’t possibly pay for his agenda. Taxes on the not-so-rich will need to rise as well.

On that point, by the way, it’s unclear why Mr. Obama thinks his climate-change scheme won’t hit all Americans with higher taxes. Selling the right to emit greenhouse gases amounts to a steep new tax on most types of energy and, therefore, on all Americans who use energy. There’s a reason that Charlie Rangel’s Ways and Means panel, which writes tax law, is holding hearings this week on cap-and-trade regulation.

Mr. Obama is very good at portraying his agenda as nothing more than center-left pragmatism. But pragmatists don’t ignore the data. And the reality is that the only way to pay for Mr. Obama’s ambitions is to reach ever deeper into the pockets of the American middle class.

What’s yours will be theirs, whether you like it or not.
