Omnibus Spending Bill Facing Opposition; Some Dems Breaking Ranks
Email This Post
Democrat Russ Feingold says he will not vote for the massive omnibus spending bill, H.R. 1105. Evan Bayh, Bob Menendez and Bill Nelson have also declared their opposition to the earmark-filled mess. Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., is working behind the scenes in a bipartisan way to kill the massive spending measure now making its way through the Senate because of provisions that loosen decades of restrictions against his native land.
The senator took to the floor in a blistering speech ticking off a host of examples of human rights abuses committed by the dictatorship, formerly led by Fidel Castro and now by his brother, Raul, including the flaunting of international law and the cozying up to other authoritarian regimes throughout the world that sponsor terror, like those in Iran and Venezuela.
Prominent Democrats adding their voices against the bill are growing…Joe Lieberman convened a group who also are leaning against voting for it. Those calls and emails must be working…and the Tea Parties may have gotten some attention on the Hill as well! You know the drill, contact Reps using the “Congressional Watch” right-hand link, or the “Contact your Representatives” section in the Resources area of the forum. Let them know to just say NO, and encourage the Democrats who are leaning in the “No” direction!
More to come…
