Well, the highly anticipated Obama press conference was much fluff, not much stuff. Surprised? Me either. Obama gave the vague “I will confront this economic crisis head-on by taking all necessary steps to ease the credit crisis, help hardworking families, and restore growth and prosperity.” Er, how? Obama played it safe in his first outing, sticking to the ethereal rather than offering much that was concrete.

As a sitting senator, Obama could lead the charge in the Democrat-controlled congress now, and probably push through whatever economic “solutions” he wished. He’s actually had this ability all through the campaign, but Obama’s favorite vote-button is “present”. That’s not gonna cut it for long. The lofty rhetoric needs to give way for some substance, soon. Like we all said during the campaign, this is not a job that lends itself well to on-the-job training.

Why does he not have a plan ready? He was elected because of the economy, right? With the unemployment figures we got this week, and the automakers about to go tits-up, you’d think he’d already have a team together to “develop solutions.” He’s gonna create a transition team to explore what to do, though. Don’t worry. He IS working diligently on the issue of the new White House dog.

The press conference showed Obama’s continued intention to control media access, much like he did by kicking reporters from certain media outlets off of the campaign plane. He avoided taking questions from any media outlet who endorsed his opponent, and refused questions from FoxNews. The “Fairness Doctrine” memo will be on the desks shortly.

After the appointment of Rhambo as his Chief of Staff on Wednesday, it is becoming quite clear that “change” will have nothing to do with governing. No, it will be politics as usual in Washington…and don’t hold your breath for any bi-partisanship under Obama’s administration. It’s already looking a bit petty…especially that Nancy Reagan spank.
