czar-nicolas

The Obama Administration Czar-count is exploding into the stratosphere. Unelected, unaccountable Sector-Dictators. We have a new one! Welcome, comrades, Mr. Mark Lloyd, FCC associate general counsel and Chief Diversity Officer.

Proud, Progressive Mark served as a Senior Fellow at the lefty Center for American Progress. During his stay, he helped author a paper titled The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio. Mark is NOT a fan of conservative talk radio.

Here are some of Mark Lloyd’s ideas on how the FCC can
“remedy” the ills of conservative talk radio.

* Restore local and national caps on the ownership of commercial radio stations.

* Ensure greater local accountability over radio licensing.

* Require commercial owners who fail to abide by enforceable public interest obligations to pay a fee to support public broadcasting.

Make commercial owners pay fees to support public broadcasting? If the American public won’t support lefty ideas and shows in the market place, (and they don’t), then the American public WILL “support” them through government radio. And who, or what determines that a “failure to abide by public interest obligations” has occurred? A Diversity Czar? A new form of the Fairness Doctrine?

We aren’t the only ones who are concerned…

Yesterday, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) wrote to Julius Genachowski, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

“The appointment of Mark Lloyd to be the Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer is at odds with assurances that the FCC would not reinstate the Fairness Doctrine that Mr. Genachowski made prior to his U.S. Senate confirmation,” Grassley said. “I hope Mr. Genachowski stands by his word and reaffirms his commitment to me that the FCC won’t be considering anything that accomplishes the goals of the Fairness Doctrine.”

Small glimmer of hope: Republicans have filed the “Czar Act of 2009″ to tell Obama “hell, no” and rein in the rulers. This could be one of the most important pieces of legislation in years, and it needs our support.
