Last night was an interesting dog and pony show for Obama as he trotted out for his first press conference here in DC. The event went on for roughly an hour and consisted of mostly softballs from reporters including the not surprising, but are-you-kidding-? question from HuffPo. There was little substance to take away and instead presented mostly misleading statements and disguised slaps at the GOP.

I think my biggest “huh?” moment came when Obama cited Japan’s economic disaster of the 90’s as an example of why his administration had to rush through a massive spending bill. That was interesting because many cite that example as the reason to avoid doing exactly what Obama is presenting. It was like Barry stood up there and said, “remember 9-11? That’s why we’ve got to train more terrorists how to fly planes.”

One more thing before I get to the round-up of his conference reports. If Obama has such difficulty with seeing the difference between stimulus and spending, then I’ll try once more. Going to the grocery store to buy bread and milk so you can eat is spending. Going to Rodeo Drive and dropping $50,000 on shoes is also spending. One is spending out of necessity. The other is a shopping spree. I’ll be sure to call it the Pelosi-Reid-Obama “Spending Spree” Bill from now on instead since that other phrase confuses you, Obama.

Here is a round-up of reviews and commentary on Obama’s speech last night:

Update: Erin put together an excellent fact-check on Dear Leader’s claims.
