Obama Wants Troops To Pay For Own Injuries
Email This Post
Let me get this straight: Our government will pay for your house if you got in over your head, but, if you’re in the military, serving your country, and you get injured… then you pay for it yourself? Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance, but was told by lawmakers that it would be “dead on arrival” if sent to Congress.
No official proposal to create such a program has been announced publicly, but veterans groups wrote a pre-emptive letter last week to Obama opposing the idea after hearing the plan was under consideration. The groups also noticed an increase in “third-party collections” estimated in the 2010 Overspending budget proposal…something they said could only be achieved if the VA started billing for service-related injuries.
Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under “consideration.” “A final decision hasn’t been made yet,” he said.
Eleven of the most prominent veterans organizations have been lobbying Congress to oppose the idea. In the letter sent last week to President Barack Obama, the veterans groups warned that the idea “is wholly unacceptable and a total abrogation of our government’s moral and legal responsbility to the men and women who have sacrificed so much.” The groups included The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
A White House spokesman would neither confirm nor deny the option was being considered. This is what Barry means by supporting our troops?

WHEN I ENLISTED IN THE MILITARY, I WAS TOLD WHEN I GOT OUT MY COUNTRY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME THE REST OF MY LIFE. SO PAYING FOR OUR INJURIES IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OD TH UNITED STATES !!! NOT OUT OF MY POCKET, IF YOU WERE DISCHARGED FROM THE MILITARY WITH SEVERANCE PAY, YOU HAD TO PAY THAT MONEY BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF WHAT EVER DISABILITY PERCENTAGE YOU RECIEVED I RECIEVED 23,500 AND PAYING $123.00 A MONTH SINCE 1991. SO IVE ALREADY BEEN SCREWED BY OUR GOVERNMENT!!! NOW YOU CAN LEAVE ME ALONE.

This concept is so typical of Obama and the liberals. Should the time ever come, I would hope that the military would step back and watch the terrorists fry the liberals’ a***s

I wouldn’t have considered CNN and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to be making things up.
Now if this cited a unicorn as the source, I’d be “shocked”.

@tav: I write about possibilities as well as policy. It is important to understand Obama and his administration’s agenda and worldview, because these are what shape policy and legislation. Death by a a thousand cuts, my dear. BTW, I’m not a dude. No harm, no foul.

Here’s more of that official news that just must be made up since it’s another indicator of poor policy decision making from the O White House:
