Obama Breaks ‘Strict’ Lobbyist Rules For Second Time

Talking out of both sides of the mouth is a commonly expected trait from most politicians, but when it comes from the man who campaigned on “hope & change” it makes it that much worse. Barack Obama promised America that lobbyists would be done and gone in his administration. Then he broke that promise to hire someone into the Dept of Defense. Now he’s gone and done it again. Twice in 1.5 weeks.
CNN’s Campbell Brown writes this open-letter criticism of his hypocrisy:
Unfortunately, we are again asking the president to explain why exactly he announced, with great fanfare, new ethics rules if he had no intention of abiding by them.
The Obama administration is yet again asking for a waiver to its very own rules about hiring lobbyists.
This time, it is the new treasury secretary, Tim Geithner. He wants a former lobbyist for Goldman Sachs to be his top aide at the Treasury Department.
My view is simple: Mr. President, if you want to hire former lobbyists because you think they are the best people to do the job, then hire former lobbyists. Just don’t hold a big news conference first to tell us how your administration is going to be so different from previous administrations in that you won’t be hiring lobbyists.
Don’t make your disdain for lobbyists and your pledges that they won’t wield influence in your administration a centerpiece of your campaign.
It’s the hypocrisy and the double-talk that makes so many of us so cynical. Do what you think is best for the country. Just be straight with us about how you’re going to do it.
Is anyone surprised? Not me. McCain warned us that Obama would say anything to get elected. In just a matter of days he’s done exactly that.

Absolutely outrageous. Geithner was the architect for TARP 1, the gift into the black-holes of the banks. Goldman Sachs is still in control of our Treasury, and it will be business as the NEW usual, having set a precedent with the first bailout. I.O.U.S.A. will have to keep revising the debt charts even higher. Those little blips that were our highest borrowing years in the past will have to be seen under a microscope when put on the same chart as our current massive blowouts. And Obama is quickly losing any credibility he may have had…not that he had any with me. I don’t trust him, and I certainly don’t trust that whatever data he throws up on his “recovery.gov” as “transparency” will be anything more than puff pieces on idiotic pet projects. LIAR!!
