Newt Joins The Tea Party

American Solutions for Winning the Future today announced their endorsement and support of the Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party, an event spanning the nation in over 150 cities and towns across America on April 15.
In addition to supporting the Tax Day event, American Solutions has joined the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition (NTPC), the coordinator of both this and the prior Nationwide Chicago Tea Party held February 27, 2009.
“The American people are fed up with Washington’s irresponsible spending spree,” said Newt Gingrich, General Chairman of American Solutions. “There are better solutions than big government and higher taxes to create jobs and get the economy moving again.”
“American Solutions is proud to partner with the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition to communicate this message to our elected officials,” Gingrich added.
The NTPC was formed February 20, 2009 by three grassroots organizations: Dontgo Movement (Dontgo), Top Conservatives on Twitter (TCOT), and Smart Girl Politics (SGP).
“These Tea Party events offer a highly visible point-of-focus for the burgeoning movement of spontaneous public demonstrations. Whether people live in New York or Wichita, they can find an April 15th event nearby and come out to voice their opposition to the irresponsible spend-borrow-tax policies of the Obama Administration and politicians in Congress,” said Michael Patrick Leahy, founder of TCOT.
“The purpose of our Coalition is to help people organize simultaneous, nationwide events,” he explained.
Organizers are working to bring together a broad coalition of conservatives, Blue Dog Democrats, independents, and Libertarians to urge members of Congress to stop their reckless big government spending or we will vote them out of office.
Round 1 was the February 27 Nationwide Chicago Tea Party, which was organized in less than a week by the NTPC, and brought together over 30,000 activists in 50 cities. The theme of Round 1 was “Repeal the Pork or Retire: Our Message to Congress.”
Round 2 is the April 15 Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party. Already, more than 115 local tea parties are planned. The website to participate in a local tea party, or to start an April 15 tea party in your area, can be found at http://www.taxdayteaparty.com . The theme of Round 2 is “Repeal the Pork, Cut Taxes.”
Round 3 will be the Independence Day Tea Party, which will be held around the country on July 4, 2009. The theme of Round 3 is “Repeal the Pork, Learn the Constitution.”
“To me, one of the most remarkable things is that none of the three Coalition organizations existed a year ago,” said Stacy Mott, founder of Smart Girl Politics. The “oldest” group is Dontgo, founded 8 months ago in the Summer of 2008.
“All three of our groups focus on rapid-response citizen activism. We use the latest technology tools to coordinate the simultaneous activities of tens of thousands – and soon to be hundreds of thousands – of activists across the country,” Mott said.
Eric J. Odom, founder of Dontgo Movement and technology expert added, “By using Twitter, Ning sites, Facebook, Blackberries, phone conference calls, blogs and other Internet-based tools, we have been able to coordinate the volunteer efforts of tens of thousands of Americans across the country at lightning speed. I find this proficiency with technology combined with passion and action at the grassroots level truly inspiring.”
Perhaps the most unique aspect of the grassroots Coalition is that none of the groups have an actual “headquarters.” Instead, the Nationwide Tea Party movement is located around the kitchen tables, laptops, tweets and blogs of the hundreds of thousands of men and women across the country. These everyday people give their time and treasure to the noble cause to which their hearts and minds are devoted: returning limited government to the United States of America.

The LP has been doing these for years. So has it really come to the GOP copying LP tactics? All I can say is, oh my gosh.
I guess the Republicans are hell bent to be seen as frivolous, inconsequential and silly as the Libertarians.

@ Paul: Tomorrow’s tea parties are NOT GOP events. They are fiscal conservative protests, and many Libertarians are involved, as well as Democrats and Independents. I applaud Libertarians for their continued battle against our out of control government, and am happy that so many people with diverse political opinions on many issues are coming together to take back our country.
