Leaked Homeland Security Report Says Gun Owners And Buyers Are “Right-Wing Extremists”
In the wake of the MIAC report (warning that Ron Paul supporters and other conservatives are extremists) and the similar “Virginia Terrorism Threat Assessment”, another document issued by the Department of Homeland Security marked “for official use only” has surfaced, and warns against so-called “rightwing extremism”. (Read the report here at Right Soup.) The document warns federal and local officials to expect “terrorism” in response to planned firearm restrictions.
According to the DHS and FBI, local law enforcement’s primary concern should be the high volume of gun and ammunition purchases over the last few months. The document equates Americans who stockpile ammunition to “rightwing terrorists.” Moreover, stockpiling (merely purchasing) ammunition is an indication of involvement in “paramilitary training exercises” and potential terrorist activity.
The document states that job losses, home foreclosures, and the collapsing economy are “perceived” by rightwing terrorists and exploited by them to “draw in new recruits” and further radicalize “those already subscribing to extremist beliefs.” According to the document, the economic crisis is a perception without a foundation in reality, merely an exaggerated device used by terrorists. In other words… if you complain about the faltering economy (reported upon numerous times a day by the media), you are a rightwing extremist and a terrorist who may resort to violence and threaten local law enforcement, especially if you support the Second Amendment, own firearms, and “stockpile” (purchase) ammunition.
The information in the report has been provided to federal, state, local, and tribal counterterrorism and law enforcement officials so they
“may effectively deter, prevent, preempt, or respond to terrorist attacks against the United States. Federal efforts to influence domestic public opinion must be conducted in an overt and transparent manner, clearly identifying United States Government sponsorship. Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are
primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting Federal Authority in favor of state or local authority, or
rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”
The document, with the unwieldy title “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” — contains the following warning:
LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION NOTICE: This product contains Law Enforcement Sensitive (LES) information. No portion of the LES information should be released to the media, the general public, or over non-secure Internet servers. Release of this information could adversely affect or jeopardize investigative activities.
In “Key Findings,” the DHS document states that the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no “no specific information that domestic rightwing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues [specifically gun control]. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.”
Christians are lumped in with the others as potential terrorists, and are painted as “conspiracy theorists” for believing a New World Order, a globalist agenda, is underway. Despite the fact that Prime Minister Gordon Brown SAID IT WAS at the G-20. Veterans are also listed as a group to monitor as a possible terrorist population.
Are you surprised by this? You shouldn’t be. Expect more of this type of sentiment and action as Obama’s agenda continues to unfold. This report, along with Attorney General Eric Holder and Nancy Pelosi’s stated aims to disarm U.S. citizens, only proves that the march is on. This is a battle, people. Not a “right wing extremist” battle…it’s a battle for ALL of our Constitutional rights, liberties and for our country. This document is an outrage. Read it for yourself and decide WHO the “conspiracy theorists” are!

I can’t believe they’d group racist, hate groups and states-rights believers in the same category. It’s a smear campaign.

FoundingBloggers makes an interesting point: Is DHS going to warn us about the Looney-Left Extremists too?

Good question, Matt! My guess is NO.

It’s funny, many theologians are disturbed by the idea of the “one world order” – believing that it is a very negative thing. It is seen as ushering in the end times, and though that is something Christians look ahead to, they (at least evangelicals) don’t in any way support a one world order/government/economy. Yet pushing a “one world order” is apparently a Christian agenda… despite what was said at the G-20… It’s progress when presented by liberals, and creepy terrorism when presented by conservatives. So they have their cake…

“Pushing a One World Order” is NOT a Christian agenda, Leanne. Human ushering in of the end times IS, however, the agenda of Iran’s current president. He is actively trying to usher in the time of the 12th Imam, messiah to the muslims, whom he and other Islamic fundamentalists believe will come in during a time of great violence during the end times. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s raison d’etre is to speed up the hidden mahdi’s arrival by increasing violence now. It seems you may have the two religions confused. Please point me to a Christian theologian who is “pushing a One World Order” or who has this as their “agenda.”

In your discussion about gun and ammunition purchases, is there a reason you left out part about law-abiding citizens? You seem to be fairly deliberately choosing only the parts that support your view. The full quote is “Both rightwing extremists and law-abiding citizens share a belief that rising crime rates attributed to a slumping economy make the purchase of legitimate firearms a wise move at this time”. Seems pretty even-handed to me. You know if blogs like yours did a better job of arguing their views without relying on deception and distortion it would go a long way towards legitimizing those views outside your own insulated corner of the political spectrum.

Matt (comment 2): The answer is yes. A similar report was prepared for left-wing extremists, as has been fairly widely reported outside the conservative blogosphere. For some reason the same law-enforcement groups that leaked the rightwing report did not appear to feel the need to leak the report on the leftwingers.

Historically speaking have gun owners always been branded extremists in the past? Or is this some kind of new branding iron? How about when the white men came and took over america from the indians using guns? indians had only bows/arrows, What were they? right wingers?
