It’s becoming clearer that Roland Burris obtained his new Senate seat with shady tactics. First he told investigators that he never spoke w/ ex-Gov Blago, Blago’s brother, or his reps. A few days later he said he spoke with the reps. A month later he remembered he had spoken with Blago’s brother. A few days after then denying he had tried to raise money for Blago he suddenly remembered that, yes, he had in fact tried to raise money for Blago. Slime.

Today the Illinois Governor, Pat Quinn, is calling on Burris to resign as senator to allow for a special election:

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says Sen. Roland Burris should resign his post for the good of the state.

Quinn said Friday that his fellow Democrat, Burris, is an honorable man. But he says controversy surrounding Burris’ appointment has cast a shadow over his service in the Senate.

The governor says a new senator should be chosen by special election.

Considering the U.S. Constitution says any state governor can call for a special election to replace an emptied senate seat Quinn should immediately move forward. I don’t see any reason to give Burris another stolen minute in that chair.
