“She’s ready”, according to the New York Times- who just released the information, confirmed by Fox News, that Hillary Clinton has accepted the position of Secretary Of State within the Obama cabinet. Leaks have been coming from the Obama and Clinton camps for days.

We learned this morning that Bill Clinton had agreed to disclose the names of the donors to his foundation…which had been a sticking point for the negotiations between Obama and Hillary. The NY Times reports that there have been days of intense vetting and negotiations intended to clear any potential obstacles to her taking the job due to her husband’s global business and philanthropic activities. Lawyers for Obama and former President Bill Clinton combed through his finances and drew up a set of guidelines for his future activities intended to avoid any appearances of conflict of interest should she take the job.

People close to the vetting said Mr. Clinton turned over the names of 208,000 donors to his foundation and library and agreed to all of the conditions requested by Mr. Obama’s transition team, including restrictions on his future paid speeches and role at his international foundation.

The Obama administration has also just announced that former N.M. Governor and ambassador to the UN Bill Richardson will be the Commerce Secretary nominee, and Timothy Geithner, President of the NY Fed, will be Treasury Secretary nominee. Of all three announced nominees, the only one could be considered a “change” candidate perhaps is Geithner, as Bill Richardson is a long-time Clinton insider. Geithner’s very much a DC and a Wall Street guy, though, and was very involved in the Bailout Bill. That he’s not a Clintonista is about as much “change” as we are getting these days from Obama.

Geithner’s nomination is perhaps the most urgent, as uncertainty over the economy is foremost in the country’s mind. Richardson is known as a proponent of free-trade, and the debate on trade is also a key issue for the country right now. The speed of the nomination announcements is not the norm, but the country perceives a power vacuum currently, and apparently Obama feels the need to cement these key positions. So far, the Obama administration is definitely looking like Clinton 2.0.
