Republicans are being hammered daily by the Spendocrats, who have a catchy new phrase: “The Party Of No.” For all that is holy, GOP, SOMEBODY needs to be the “Party of No.” (I think I’ve just found my sign-slogan for the Tax Day Tea Party.)

Sadly, the catchphrase is far too generous, as many in the GOP are falling all over themselves to assist in passing the “Gift Act”, HR 1388…creating Obama’s National Service Corps. Why, in the face of an enormous economic crisis, would Republicans vote for something which at best is an expensive expansion of a very inefficient bureaucracy, and is more likely the beginnings of a giant recruitment vehicle for the leftest of the left? Unsurprisingly, ACORN stands to benefit nicely from this boondoggle.

The Washington Examiner highlights that:

…the legislation threatens the voluntary nature of Americorps by calling for consideration of “a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people.” It anticipates the possibility of requiring “all individuals in the United States” to perform such service – including elementary school students. The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing “campuses” that serve as “operational headquarters,” complete with “superintendents” and “uniforms” for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And it calls for creation of “a permanent cadre” in a “National Community Civilian Corps.”
But that’s not all. The bill also calls for “youth engagement zones” in which “service learning” is “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.” This updated form of voluntary community service is also to be “integrated into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula” at all levels of schooling.

The kumbayah over this idiocy is nauseating. Senators have spent days patting themselves and each other on the backs over this bill.

Republicans? If you can’t take the heat of representing sanity in America, step off and we’ll replace you. We desperately need grownups in the Romper-Room of Congress. Like, for example, Senator Jim DeMint.
