God Bless Texas: Gov. Perry Joins Sponsors Of HCR 50 In Support Of States’ Rights
Email This Post
Around 30 states have now passed resolutions in their legislatures that reassert the sovereignty of their respective states and states’ rights vs. the federal government. The mainstream media response has been to marginalize these actions, and to declare them as ineffective and merely symbolic. That attitude SHOULD change after today; Texas Governor Rick Perry has joined the fight.
From the office of Governor Rick Perry:
Gov. Rick Perry today joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”
A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.
It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.
HCR 50 is authored by Representatives Brandon Creighton, Leo Berman, Bryan Hughes, Dan Gattis and Ryan Guillen.

The only reason that the federal government intrudes upon every detail of
our lives today is that the Civil War was fought over the Tenth Amendment of
the U. S. Constitution, and the South lost. The Tenth Amendment states…
Amendment X
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor
prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or
to the people. ”
In other words, if the Constitution itself doesn’t give the Federal
Government the authority to do something, it has no authority to do it.
Take, for instance, the Department of Education. The Constitution gives the
Federal Government no control whatsoever over the education of our children.
If the Tenth Amendment was enforced, the Department of Education would
evaporate overnight, as would 75% of the entire U.S. Government!
We just had the Supreme Court vote to support the Second Amendment, AS IT
WAS WRITTEN within the Constitution. What if the Supreme Court delivered a
similar opinion concerning the Tenth Amendment? This is exactly the
scenario that lead to the American Civil War.
Oklahoma started this movement about two years ago, and other States have
followed. Now that Texas is going public with it, and has support within
over half of the States, it will be interesting to see where this leads. I
guarantee that the Feds are having a conniption fit. This is one to watch.
