Digesting Obama

Just few initial thoughts on Obama’s big speech to Congress and America tonight. (Full text here, thanks to Matt!) Historic, yes. But can we please move on now? If we spend thirty minutes every time Obama does something that presidents DO, blabbing about HOW historic he is, it is going to be an interminable next 4 years.

Obama says we are going to rebuild and recover, and he’s making HUGE bets on alternative energy, Government run healthcare, Government sponsored education, caps on carbon and “green jobs.” A not-veiled-at-all promise to gut our national defense and get rid of “cold war” systems we “no longer need.” Plenty of blame was shoveled onto Bush, of course, and vows from BO that “this time” there WILL be oversight in our massive spending bills. By Joe Biden. Because “nobody messes with Joe.”

Barry was back on the hopeium tonight, giving Americans a pep talk to wash down the doom of the economy. Typical BO/BS speech, in that it was very short on specifics, and long on the promises. Barry’s gonna cure cancer! Who’s gonna pay the bill? Obama has spent $36 billion dollars a day since he was sworn in. Still, he says “I get it” in response to the outrage growing amongst the American people, especially those heading out to tea parties. Obviously, BO, you don’t, as the pitchforks are starting to come out.

Credit, credit, credit. Gotta have CREDIT. The government is now going to start a new fund for car loans, college loans and small business loans…because without credit we are in the shitter. No word on how much “voluntary service” that government loan is going to require. Obama is going to keep yelling loudly at the banks to try and get them to lend, too. So there’s that.

Barry blew through some things tonight, like his call to all Americans to get another year of higher education or trade school. He also wants us to volunteer doing community service. These were just tossed out, with no details on what our Dear Leader is going to use to make this happen. Of course he lied about “no earmarks in the Porkulus,” eliciting laughter from Congress until they realized he was SERIOUS. He said his budget for 2010 has no earmarks…conveniently leaving OUT this year’s appropriations bill coming in two days, $400 billion with 9000 earmarks. Very disingenuous, Barry. Nice sleight of hand.

Barry has a shameless, massive agenda, and the spending spree has only just begun. He is looking to spend like crazy for years and years. The unprecedented spending so far is just “a down payment.” How Obama thinks he is going to “cut the deficit in half “, (meaning by $500 billion according to Barry’s calculator) will likely be another of those things Obama says to make us look the other way while he goes right ahead and does what ever he wants. When Barry gets done spending, $500 billion is going to REALLY look like chump change. Oh, and blah, blah, blah, transparency, blah, blah.

I’ll have more thoughts after I digest. Pork has a way of giving me a stomachache.
