Breaking news: Scandal plagued governor Rod Blagojevich has just announced he has decided to disregard threats from IL lawmakers and AG by appointing former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat.

Burris told reporters this afternoon that he was first contacted by Blagojevich regarding the possible appointment just two days ago on Sunday. Reporters asked Burris how much influence his campaign contributions (roughly $14,000) to Blagojevich had made in this appointment. Burris said he had no idea he had contributed so much.

Blago’s appointment of Burris would still have to be certified to become official. Blagojevich was already warned that if he made any appointments it would be rejected. Looks like they’re playing a game of chicken.

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), had previously called Burris “unacceptable” as a replacement for Obama in the U.S. Senate. I wonder if that has anything to do with Roland Burris’ comments on “white boys.”

Discuss: Can any appointment by disgraced governor Rod Blagojevich be considered respectable and honest?
