john-edwards-love-child-enquirer

Okay, so it ISN’T a big surprise…not to anyone who’s kept up with the drama. The National Enquirer greatly upped it’s tabloid reputation by dogging John Edwards about his (later confessed to) mistress Rielle Hunter. Rielle has a daughter that greatly resembles Edwards, and who was rumored to be his child. Edwards has publicly denied he was the baby’s daddy.

It seems, however, that the Enquirer’s scored another blockbuster… that Johnny Slime will fess up to the fathering. In it’s latest issue it is reporting that a secret DNA test was done, and it shows that Edwards is the father of 18-month old Frances. The test was actually part of a child support process, because Rielle wants LEGAL money to help pay for the care of the child.

Having an affair is bad, having one while your wife is battling incurable cancer is worse…but neither is illegal. What IS illegal is paying what amounts to child support, to said mistress, from one’s campaign coffers. John Edwards is in criminal trouble for doing just that.

Rielle was called to testify against Edwards before a federal grand jury last week. It’s investigating campaign finance fraud by Edwards’ secretly funneling money to her – and her testimony could send the slimy shyster to jail. Oh, and she brought the baby to court. The Enquirer details that:

“Rielle had no choice but to demand John take a DNA test,” said the close friend.

“She was worried about getting long-term financial support for her daughter. So she hired an attorney, and John consented to undergo a secret swab test to establish paternity.

“There was no surprise: The results of the DNA test proved John was Frances’ daddy.”

Another source confirmed to The ENQUIRER: “John always knew he was the father of Rielle’s baby.

“Despite the ongoing financial negotiations, sources say Rielle testified against Edwards in front of the grand jury, spending nine hours inside the courthouse on Aug. 6 in Raleigh, N.C.

Rielle’s testimony against Edwards came as a “cooperating witness” for the government, added a source familiar with the investigation.

“Rielle is not dumb. She knew the feds had subpoenaed her bank statements and knew about every payment she received,” said the source.

“The FBI told her it was in her best interests to tell the truth, and she did. And unlike the others who have testified, Rielle was driven to the court by FBI agents and escorted in by them. She got favorable treatment because she testified against John.”

Blech. It all stinks. Sadly, Edwards is far from the only smelly player in Washington. He’s just the current poster-child.
