UPDATE: The Baucus bill passed the Senate Finance Committee 14-9, and will now be merged with the Kennedy bill, which does contain a public option. Some think the votes are not there for a plan containing such an option. THEN, the Senate and the House have to attempt to work out an agreed final bill. Still a long time to go, so you have time to contact your Representatives with your objections. Hopefully we’ll have something to actually read soon.

An estimated 51 million people will be uninsured when and if the Baucus health care bill, up for votes in the Senate shortly, is passed. Wait a minute…Obama has been fudging around with his numbers on the currently uninsured, and has gone from 47 million to 30 million (after being reminded not to count the illegals.)

So 51 million? That’s what Fox has calculated. MORE people will be uninsured than are currently. The projected numbers of uninsured varies wildly depending on who you listen to. All projections, however, say there will still be millions of uninsured even after we spend a massive amount on “reform.”

The bill is expected to add between $2000 and $4000 per year for the average family, will tax “Cadillac plans”, and will make it financially attractive for individuals NOT to buy insurance. Why? The fine for being uninsured will be much less than the annual insurance premiums would cost. Thus the added number of uninsured, who will likely buy insurance only when they have a medical need arise. Insurance companies would be required to cover them, so why pay premiums unless insurance is needed?

The Baucus bill is just a shell that Democrats hope to merge with the House health care bill which has already passed. It will cost almost a trillion dollars. Who knows what will be added in the middle of the night during horse-trading sessions?! Not us, that’s for sure. Probably not Congress either…Congressmen don’t have a great track record for reading bills. We’ll update the status of the vote as it changes.

Contact your Representatives and tell them this isn’t the kind of reform America needs. Our massive spending is crashing the dollar, and the Obama administration seems to care not. When the inevitable inflation hits, the average American will hopefully wake up. Unfortunately, it may be too late.
